I'll be honest, Facebook is my hangout of choice these days, but I've been hankering to get some of my new stuff up on my gallery so it's finally happening! Mostly the reason is that I've been going to cons but not photoshoots lately. I plan to sit back from cons for a while so I can focus on getting some truly great photos of my stuff before it falls apart from overuse, haha.
I made a Final Fantasy XIII Lightning cosplay last year and won 2nd place craftsmanship and cosplay at Anime Banzai 2013 in Layton Utah! This was the biggest win for me after cosplaying for 9 years. I can die happy with my two beautiful trophies haha. I haven't gotten decent pics of it yet so I have only posted a couple at-con ones just to show you I really made it XD This was the most expensive, time consuming outfit I have ever done. I used real leather for everything but the boots, custom ordered various buckles and hardware, bought a handdrawn pattern from God Save The Queen Fashions, bought the official silver necklace...ho boy. It was worth it to use quality materials and the colors I chose are as close as it gets to the real thing. I am really proud of the wig too. I want to make the sword and the bag to carry it in at some point because there really aren't many poses you can do as Lightning without that bad-A blade ;3;
Also, for Salt Lake Comic Con, I threw together her casual outfit from the very tail end of Lightning Returns (the "special ending" you get after completing enough quests). It's such a gorgeous look that I would love to wear even out of cosplay. Look for some photos of that in my gallery!
ALSO! I made yet another large scale creature outfit - Volvagia from LoZ: OoT! I've been wanting to do a proper dragon for a while and this one was a really fun challenge. My design and materials plans changed several times but the end result is something that is comfortable, sturdy and very easy to carry around. I will eventually make a "how I made" video for this one. I leveled up so many things while making it and I think now that sculpting might be my true artistic calling, so look forward to future non-cosplay sculpting projects!
So between Lightning's casual outfit, Volvagia and Neo Queen Serenity, I think I have broken my usual pace of 1 new cosplay a year. With a growing baby at home it has been challenging finding the time to work on art but I was so determined, haha. The stress of getting them done in time for certain events put a strain on my family that I won't repeat in the near future. No more deadlines, silly! Do it for the sake of doing it <3
My next two cosplays I want to do are the Midnight Mauve dress from Lightning Returns and a steampunk Mami from Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Both involve corsetry and other new skills I can't wait to work on!
